From the past, so many decades’ movies have been an integral part of our daily lives as they change with the development of society. Although movies are made to serve a sole purpose and that is Entertainment while our Indian Cinema has been the biggest contributor to it. When we say Indian Cinema we often think of Bollywood but our regional cinema has come a long way especially the South Indian Film Industry.

Bollywood has been the flag bearer of the Hindi Cinema in the country but we have witnessed in recent times how Bollywood is not doing enough to cater to the interest of the masses. Some say it has lost its touch while referring to several reasons.

This has created a void and South Indian Hindi dubbed movies have made up for this void quite amazingly. When we talk about the South Indian Film Industry it includes movies from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam film industries based in the southern part of the country.

We have seen a huge surge in the popularity of these Hindi dubbed movies in the last 5 years and the craze is growing with every coming day. I was puzzled to see how the fascination for these movies has grown among people from northern and central India which is also called the Hindi Heartland and what struck me the most was how people wait for these South Indian Hindi dubbed movies to be released on different platforms. We have seen this sort of craze only for Bollywood movies in the past.

Due to this eagerness among the masses, there are now many companies competing for the dubbing rights which include their satellite and terrestrial rights for these movies. Goldmines Telefilms, Aditya Movies, and Pen Movies are some of the leading companies in this regard. Mostly the Hindi dubbed versions of South Indian movies are made for those movies which have been a huge commercial success as well as a critically acclaimed movie in their respective film industries.

The craze for new South Indian films has now reached up to a level as many of India’s leading movie channels now show these films in their daily prime time slot and all other important time slots are often reserved for them too. These channels have now even started to show premiere by acquiring television rights as they can attract millions through the first broadcast of these movies. Even local cable networks have now started a dedicated channel to show these south Indian movies.

YouTube which is one of the world’s major video sharing online platforms where the views of the channels associated with the companies which acquire digital rights of these Hindi dubbed movies have billions of views and a huge mass following of their channels due to which these movies get to trend on YouTube in hours of its digital release. As we all know in today’s world people prefer to watch content online more than in other platforms. All these things collaborate and make South Indian Hindi Dubbed Movies a big hit on such online platforms as well.

Many current south Indian stars such as Allu Arjun, Junior NTR, Prabhas, Suriya, Vijay, Dhanush are now household names in the entire country while legends such as Rajnikant, Chiranjeevi, Vikram, and Ajith have always been in our hearts due to this very craze for their movies. Films like Bahubali (both parts), DJ, Vishwaroopam, Sivaji-The Boss, Robot, KGF, and many more such movies have broken many records in Hindi dubbed versions after creating havoc in the Southern Box Office.

After the success of Hindi dubbed versions, now we can see a huge increment in the Hindi remakes of these films from the south. Many leading Bollywood actors and producers are interested in re-making these movies in Hindi. There have been many instances where rights of these films are being acquired in a few days of its release in the southern box office. Many Bollywood critics have said in the past that these successful Hindi remakes of latest south Indian films have even saved drowning careers of many top rated Bollywood actors.

Now the question that comes to our mind is “Why is there so much craze for these Hindi dubbed versions of South Indian movies & why have they become such a huge success in other parts of the country”? Let’s try to find out why this is so.

GOOD CONTENT BASED FILMS

They are usually very good content-driven films but we should admit the fact that since only those movies are dubbed in Hindi which is already a big success & made a name for themselves in their respective regional box offices. So it is certain that they must be full of good content that we all want to see.

MIDDLE-CLASS APPEAL

It is a known fact that we attract towards those things which are relatable to our daily lives in some manner. In India, we know most of our population is middle class and the unique thing in these movies which attracts millions of us is that they appeal to the middle class due to which we find similarity with us and tend to incline towards them. Even the characterization in these movies is done in such a manner which looks as if it was made for the masses with an appeal to the middle class.

PROMOTION OF INDIAN CULTURE

The biggest thing why a whole family can enjoy these south Indian movies is that they promote our Indian culture and heritage in its purest form. People in Southern India have been promoting and preserving our culture from the past so many years and the same is being reflected in their movies. The importance of culture and tradition is more prominent in south India as compared to other parts of our country. It can be seen easily with the way the characters dress up in these movies and minimal vulgarity. As we all know westernization of our Bollywood films has affected its audience especially our elders who feel at home while watching these south Indian movies in which there is a show of a huge Indian cultural diversity.

I remember the phrase used by my uncle who was so impressed with the way these films promote our Indian Culture while watching one of the South Indian Hindi Dubbed Movies, he says “ये हमारे दक्षिण भारतीय लोग ही हैं जिन्होंने हमारी संस्कृति को बचा रखा हुआ है ”. This says it all as to how our elders from earlier generations feel about these movies.

DIGITIZATION

Digitization is one of the major reasons which has helped these movies to flourish as earlier people were dependent upon television to enjoy these movies. Also, due to the language barrier, these films can’t be seen in theatres by Hindi audiences as they were made particularly for the southern audience in their respective languages. But now due to the digital boom in the country, anyone can enjoy them in their gadgets.

NO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS

We know that these movies are being made for a limited audience which is not that big in numbers. So the people who will make these movies are low in numbers too due to which budget might be the issue while making these movies but the reality is quite different to what we think as they spend lots of money in the movie-making as we can see many outdoor locations, dynamic fight sequences, huge sets which are very costly. This is all due to the love admiration for these movies from the people in the south as well from different parts of the country. Movies like Bahubali which was made on such a large scale budget that no other film industry would even think of doing the same.

Einstein the great physicist once said, “There is nothing known as perfect”. This is applicable in the case of these South Indian Dubbed Hindi Movies too as some flaws need to be corrected to make these vastly loved movies even more lovable. Here are some improvements that can be done:

CRINGE WORTHY TITLES

In these Hindi dubbed versions the biggest disappointment is the Hindi title given to these movies. It is known to all that originally these movies have titles in their respective regional languages. And yes it’s not an easy task to find a new one in Hindi language but some more work can be done so it won’t make mockery for itself while reading. I hope these dubbing companies will listen to us and try to find some ways to figure it out.

IMPROVEMENT IN DUBBING

Dubbing of these movies is not a major concern for us but improvement is required in certain areas such as in some movies we have noticed that dialogues recited by the dubbing artists sometimes go over the board in pronunciation or dialect which makes the fun of watching a little lesser. Also, we should encourage people with better voice quality to join this field of dubbing which will eventually create some more varieties in the voices that we hear in these South Indian Hindi Dubbed Movies.
